OUR STORY
Miriam and Mariajose are Spanish teachers who started Latin Spanish Academy 20 years ago. They have more than 30 years of teaching experience.
They wanted to change the way Spanish schools operate, starting in their home town of Antigua, Guatemala.
The average Spanish language school in Antigua, Guatemala, pays its teachers from $2.50 to $4.00 per hour while charging the student $14.00 to $20.00 per hour. A majority of Spanish teachers working for language schools in Guatemala do not receive a dignified wage, nor do they have any of the employment protections that exist in other countries. In some schools, the treatment borders on abuse and exploitation.
Latin Spanish Academy pays its teachers a fair wage that increases their financial decision-making power and ability to create a better future.
At Latin Spanish Academy, teachers can charge students less than the "better" Spanish schools and can keep the income, often 4 to 5 times the wage they earned in a Spanish school.

OUR INSPIRATION
The idea of the Spanish school arose because there are many women in Guatemala who cannot develop their professional lives after becoming mothers. It is very difficult since many have to give up their dreams to take care of their children at home. With Latin Spanish Academy, we have the opportunity to work from home and always be aware of our children and at the same time do something that we are truly passionate about, which is teaching.
